One step or two from fighting for a world crown, WBA #2 welterweight Yuri Nuzhnenko had no business losing an optional defense of his WBA intercontinental title against rugged Argentinean veteran Juan Carlos Villareal. And the Ukrainian 147 lbs. hope did exactly what he was expected to do by totally overwhelming an aging foe for twelve rounds and keeping his perfect unbeaten record intact. The Nuzhnenko-Villareal showdown headlined a huge event, presented by the National Box Promotions on Saturday in Kiev, Ukraine.

WBA #2 rated welterweight Yuri Nuzhnenko (25-0, 13 KOs) will defend his WBA intercontinental title for the third time on June 9 at Kiev Sports Palace in Kiev, Ukraine. Nuzhnenko is facing another tough test in his career as he takes on Argentinean Juan Carlos Villareal (38-7-1, 23 KOs). The Ukrainian boxer is coming off the most important fight of his life – a hard decision victory over then-undefeated Uzbek veteran Farkhad Bakirov. If successful against Villareal, Nuzhnenko will put a trigger either on WBA champion Miguel Cotto, or on European titlist Frederic Klose, who is ranked first by the World Boxing Association. Supporting the show will be a huge bunch of local prospects, including IBF #15 cruiserweight Vadim Safonov (19-2, 9 KOs), unbeaten Vitaly Rusal (14-0, 9 KOs), Vyacheslav Uzelkov (15-0, 8 KOs), Sergey Fedchenko (15-0, 5 KOs), Valery Brazhnik (12-0, 7 K)s) and Maxim Bursak (9-0, 1 KO). Young heavyweight giant Oleksandr Kabanov (6’9 with 2 KOs in 2 fights) will also test his skills in the squared ring. The show is promoted by National Box Promotions.

WBA #3 welterweight Yuri Nuzhnenko will be back inside the ring on June, 9, in Kiev, Ukraine. Nuzhnenko, 30, who recently defeated then-unbeaten Uzbek Farkhad Bakirov in a hard win-or-lose cross-roader, is going to defend his WBA intercontinental title for the third time against an opponent to be named soon. Yuri, whose record is a perfect one with 25-0 and 13 kayos, aims a shot at veteran French master Frederic Klose, ranked #2 by the WBC and the WBA, for both European crown and the ‘mandatory challenger’ position as well. Nuzhnenko is possibly the best of Ukrainian undefeated 147 lbs trio, as Victor Plotnikov and Vyacheslav Senchenko are also going to shock the world in the nearest future

Tough-as-usual Vyacheslav Senchenko (now 21-0, 15 KOs), 29, joined his fellow compatriots Yuri Nuzhnenko and Victor Plotnikov as the third unbeaten welterweight from Ukraine to score a level-up victory in last two weeks. The Ukrainian trio has now a combined record of 64-0, with 37 kayos.

When two young unbeaten prospects are thrown into the same squared ring to determine the one, who will go further, it’s definitely a show worth watching. The same could be said about two undefeated veterans, facing each other in probably their last crossroad fight in career; the clash, which will put the winner forward on short track to the title with the loser suffering a bitter defeat, perhaps the career-lethal one. The only difference is that there could be no second chance for either participant, what is though bad to them; however, extremely thrilling for the fans.

According to some sources in Ukrainian and Russian press a long-waited showdown between current EBU 168 lbs titleholder Mger Mkrtchian (23-2, 17 KOs) of Russia via Armenia and also Russian-based hot Georgian prospect David Gogiya (15-1, 4 KOs) will be removed from Moscow to be staged in Kiev on September, 23rd.

A huge show, including some hot prospects, will be staged on the 23rd of September in Sports Palace, Kiev, Ukraine. Headlining the show will be extremely talented Russian middleweight Zaurbek Baysangurov (14-0, 12 KOs), who will face his toughest quest to date by meeting perennial Mexican contender Marco Antonio Rubio (34-3-1, 30 KOs) for a vacant WBC International 154 lbs title.
