According to some sources in Ukrainian and Russian press a long-waited showdown between current EBU 168 lbs titleholder Mger Mkrtchian (23-2, 17 KOs) of Russia via Armenia and also Russian-based hot Georgian prospect David Gogiya (15-1, 4 KOs) will be removed from Moscow to be staged in Kiev on September, 23rd.
Mkrtchian, 29, is former WBO title challenger with the sad outcome in TKO loss to super middleweight king Joe Calzaghe back to February, 2004. He is coming of a sensational eleventh round TKO over tough Frenchman Jackson Chanet this spring. Gogiya, 30, is also on the hot streak with his recent victories and highly disputed loss to Sergey Tatevosyan and NC to Eric Teymour.
Once planned on the 28th of September in Russian capital this bout will be now the co-feature fight of the evening in Kiev Sports palace along with the WBA intercontinental title rumble in 147 lbs between Ukrainian Yuri Nuzhnenko (23-0, 12 KOs) and Russian veteran Maxim Nesterenko (46-8-2, 28 KOs). Headlining the show will be a perfect match-up between vastly talented young Russian middleweight Zaurbek Baysangurov (14-0, 12 KOs) and perennial Mexican contender Marko Antonio Rubio (34-3-1, 30 KOs) for the vacant WBC international crown in 154 lbs. This triple-header makes Kiev evening one of the most significant in post-Soviet history of Eastern Europe boxing.
