Being avenged is a sweet feeling, even when you aren’t the avenger. Former world champion Kostya Tszyu watched his first conqueror Vince Phillips fall short on Sunday in the main event of the "International Kostya Tszyu Cup" event -- named after the legendary Russian-Australian pugilist. Sturdy Alisultan Nadirbegov (16-2, 6 KOs) sustained some rough moments, but outpointed the 43-year-old former IBF light welterweight titlist Phillips (48-12-1, 34 KOs) over ten rounds via unanimous decision. The card took place at Arsenal Stadium in Tula, about 100 miles south of Moscow.

Up and coming Russian welterweight Vladimir Zykov, 23, showed once again, that he is for real in 147 lbs, this Saturday in Sports Palace of Kazan, Russia. Young talent scored his third kayo victory in a row, when Mexican Juan Jose Bermejo remained on his stool following the end of round eleven during their clash for the minor IBA intercontinental title. Zykov, now 18-0 with 4 KOs, was much quicker than his opponent, showing enormous potential and fine technique. Bermejo moves down to 6-3-2 with 5 KOs. This bout was the headliner of the first stage of International Kostya Tszyu Cup of season 2006/07. Zykov was coming off the two strong performances in United States against Jesus Rodriguez and James Wayka.

Solopov takes revenge on Sultan!

Anton Solopov, Pokachi, Russia, who seems to be one of the hottest prospects in Russian boxing today, avenged himself for the lone blemish in career via ten-round unanimous decision over his most dangerous rival Dondon Sultan of Labason, Philippines, yesterday in Icesport Center, Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia. Though no scores were reported local sources informed that Solopov was in control of the fight showing good technique and encouragement. However, Sultan was game and tough but had no chance against higher and more skilled opponent. This bout was the apogee of the final stage of International Tszyu Cup. Solopov is now 13-1, 9 KOs, while Sultan drops back with 13-7-2, 7 KOs.
