Eastern Europe update!

Russian welterweight Marat Khuzeev (15-2-1, 6 KOs) successfully returned into the ring for the first time since his loss to Ukrainian Victor Plotnikov this February. On Thursday in a tune-up fight Khuzeev has scored an easy unanimous decision over trial-horse Andrey Tylilyuk (2-22-1, 1 KO) on all three scorecards: 80-72, 80-72, and 80-73.

 A huge show, featuring one minor title fight and a group of talented fighters, will be arranged today in Cheboksary by RS Sport Promotion. The main event will see undefeated Russian heavyweight Alexey Solovyev (12-0, 7 KO) in a non-title twelve-rounder versus Kenyan Tom Okusi (5-8-1, 5 KOs).

Ukrainian welters triumph!

t’s not unusual to see Ukrainian fighters, ranked among the best in their weight classes. That is, however, not the case for the welterweight, which is thought by many to be the deepest and the most talented weight division nowadays. Or it, better to say, was the case until the very beginning of this week, which saw two of the best Ukrainian welters – Yuri Nuzhnenko and Victor Plotnikov – keep their perfect stats in tact via hard-fought decisions over a credible opposition. Both fighters made some huge steps towards the world-wide recognition and a possible title clash with one of the current beltholders in 147 lbs. On Tuesday unbeaten Nuzhnenko defeated his defense-minded foe Farkhad ‘Masa’ Bakirov in an awkward and dirty fight, while Plotnikov barely edged tough Marat Khuzeev via close but unanimous decision a day earlier.

Khuzeev – Ablazim tonight!

Russian welterweight Marat Khuzeev (14-1-1, 5 KOs) will try to make another step towards worldwide recognition this night at Zimniy Stadium, St. Petersburg, Russia, as he takes on undefeated but unknown Egyptian Tarek Ablazim (6-0, 4 KOs) in ten-rounder for the minor IPBF 147 lbs title. Khuzeev is coming off the March setback, suffered from the hands of world-rated Dane Reda Zam Zam. Despite fighting only sixteen times in a career, Khuzeev has a huge experience in fighting the qualified opposition. He scored decisions over such notables as Joszef Matolcsi and Christian Bladt and has a draw with fellow contender Sergey Sorokin to his resume.
