Earlier, cruiserweight Firat Arslan (26-3-1, 18 KOs) dethroned WBA interim champion Valery Brudov (33-2, 25 KOs) via twelve round split decision to earn a shot at WBA titleholder Virgil Hill. Arslan pressed the action and seemingly was a clear winner although scores were 117-111, 116-112 for Arslan, 116-112 for Brudov.

It appears the WBA will continue to recognize three world champions in the cruiserweight division until at least October. According to WBA rules, "Super Champion" Jean-Marc Mormeck has 18 months from March to defend that belt. In a new WBA resolution, interim champion Valery Brudov and offical challenger Firat Arslan have been ordered to fight no later than June 16, 2007. "Regular" champion Virgil Hill, who lost a non-title bout to Henry Maske in March is now being called "champion in recess." He is being given until October 15 to fight the winner of Brudov-Arslan. If the Brudov-Arslan winner isn't available by that date, he will lose the interim title and Hill will be required to defend against an official challenger named by the WBA World Championships Committee.

According to the official portal of Russian Professional Boxing Federation, the WBA interim cruiserweight belt will finally be for grabs on June, 16, in Budapest, Hungary, when the current interim champion Valery Brudov (33-1, 25 KOs) is going to defend his title for the first time against German Firat Arslan (26-3-1, 18 KOs). The main event of the evening will see national boxing hero Zsolt Erdei versus an opponent, still to be announced, for the WBO light heavyweight title.

Russian cruiserweight Valery Brudov (WBA #4) will make yet another attempt to capture one of the major boxing titles, however in its interim form, on December 2 at Palais Omnisport, Bercy, Paris, France, when he faces Panamanian kayo artist Luis Andres Pineda (WBA #2, WBC #7) for the WBA cruiserweight title. The show will be promoted by AMI Productions, lead by Michel Acaries.

In a highly competitive and extremely close collision Russian-based Georgian David Gogiya (16-1, 4 KOs) edged always tough Armenian Mger Mkrtchian (23-3, 17 KOs, hailing originally from Gumni, Armenia) with a narrow twelve-round split decision on his way of capturing European (EBU) title in super middleweight division this Thursday in Casino Konti, St. Petersburg, Russia.
