World-class boxing hit the Russian capital for the second time in eight months with the “Boxing Show #2”, promoted by Yuri Fedorov Sports Lab in association with the Sauerland Event and the Seminole Warriors Boxing and with the help of Putinka Boxing Stars. However, the breath-taking thriller on paper turned out to be a less-than-stellar performance after a bunch of sudden failures and withdraws, though remaining the most significant boxing event in Eastern Europe this year.

"It was tough fight against a very experienced opponent but I am pleased with my performance," said unbeaten heavyweight contender Alexander Povetkin after his shutout decision over Larry Donald, which spelled his 13th win in as many bouts. "I don´t know how long it will take me to get a title fight but I am definitely ready." Co-manager Wilfried Sauerland was full of praise for the 2004 Olympic super heavyweight gold medalist. "That was a great performance by Alexander," he lauded. "He dominated his experienced opponent and won every single round. He also showed that he is capable of going the full ten rounds even though it was an exhausting battle. He did not take many shots but hit Donald very often.....after this strong performance Alexander will find himself in the top ten in all the world rankings," Sauerland added. "A title fight it not far away."

Russian heavyweight hope Alexander Povetkin struggled a bit but successfully passed the toughest test of his career by scoring a shutout decision over American Larry Donald: 100-90 on all the judges' scorecards. After an even first round, Alexander increased the number of thrown combinations and started beating Donald to the punch. Larry fought hard in the middle of the bout but visibly faded down the stretch. Povetkin is now 13-0 with 11 KOs, while Donald dropped down to 42-5-3, 24 KOs. Fightnews scored the fight 100-91 for Povetkin.

What had once seemed to be just another presser, covering the ‘Boxing Show #2’, turned out to be an intriguing performance with the promoters playing their roles brilliantly and with a thrilling change in the mid of the story.

The press-conference, held at ITAR-TASS building on Tverskoy Boulevard in Moscow, Russia, on Wednesday, was first dedicated to the Kirillov-Vargas super flyweight showdown. The situation, however, changed a lot during the process as it was announced that the IBF title fight against Vargas would be no go. Alexander Povetkin’s co-manager Vladimir Hrunov, who attended the presser, took control of the scene by announcing the arrival of Carl King and Henry Akinwande and by getting the tribune in order to continue the pre-match show in the most exciting way.

Unbeaten heavyweight hopeful Alexander Povetkin and American veteran Larry Donald visited Red Square yesterday following their official press conference in Moscow. The 2004 Olympic gold medal winner is looking forward to the biggest challenge of his career: "I am excited to fight a strong man such as Donald in front of my home fans," the 27-year-old said ahead of the clash on June 30. Povetkin (12-0, 10 KOs) has set his sights on the 13th win in as many fights, while 40-year-old Donald (42-4, 24 KOs) is eager to put himself back in line for a shot at the world title. The American last fought in October 2005 when he lost a WBA title eliminator against Nikolai Valuev. The fight will be televised in over 25 countries.

Just nine days until up-and-coming heavyweight star Alexander Povetkin will lock horns with American veteran Larry Donald in Moscow. Today the pair came face-to-face at a press conference in the Russian capital. "This is a crucial point in Alexander´s career," co-manager Vlad Hrunov stated. "It will be a question of to be or not to be."

A huge undercard, featuring two world-class fights and a bunch of talented youngsters, was announced yesterday by the organizers of “The Boxing Show 2”. Headlining preliminary part of the show is a rematch between up and coming Ukrainian heavyweight Oleg Platov (25-1, 21 KO) and tough Nigerian veteran Henry Akinwande (49-3-1, 30 KO) for Oleg’s IBF intercontinental title. Platov, 24, is ranked #14 by the IBF and #15 by the WBC. Akinwande, 41, is a former WBO champion, known for his wins over Orlin Norris, Axel Schultz, Timo Hoffmann and other formidable opponents. Platov defeated Akinwande via debatable split decision last November to acquire his minor belt.

Alexander Povetkin is neither a titlist nor even a contender right now. Despite of that he is a figure to be remembered in every deep boxing overview. It took Alexander only two years at pro ranks to establish himself as probably the hottest young gun in heavyweight. He is already the biggest boxing attraction in Russia as well. Why so?

Russian heavyweight hope Alexander Povetkin (12-0, 10 KOs), WBC #10 in the most popular division, will now face Larry 'The Legend' Donald (42-4-3, 24 KOs) on June, 30, at 'Olympiyski' Sports Palace, Moscow. It was officially announced today that Donald would replace Monte Barrett as Povetkin's next foe. "It's not unusual in boxing that one of the opponents is suddenly taken out of the bout shortly prior the fight", says Povetkin's co-manager Vladimir Hrunov. "There are some important circumstances, which don't allow Monte to fight Alexander on June, 30. But Larry Donald is definitely no way easier than Barrett. He possesses an extremely vast experience in the ring and he is really tough. This fight will be a huge test for Sasha, the biggest in his career. It will answer many questions regarded his skills and his future."

It’s official. On June, 30, Russian heavyweight hope Alexander Povetkin (11-0, 9 KOs) will try to overcome the stiffest test in his short but almost flawless career by facing two-time world title challenger Monte ‘Two Gunz’ Barrett (31-5, 18 KOs) in a decent attempt to step up hugely in class.

The Povetkin-Barrett showdown will crown a huge Moscow boxing card, promoted by Yuri Fedorov Sports Lab in association with Sauerland Event and Seminole Warriors Boxing, and with the help of Putinka Boxing Stars. The show will likely feature an IBF super flyweight clash for the vacant belt between local hero Dmitry ‘The Baby’ Kirillov (28-3, 9 KOs) and Mexican veteran Ricardo ‘Chapo’ Vargas (39-12-3, 13 KOs), a heavyweight rematch of the debated first fight between Ukrainian Oleg Platov (25-1, 21 KOs) and Nigerian Henry Akinwande (49-3-1, 30 KOs), and also a huge number of local and foreign prospects is expected to fill the card. The event, scheduled to take place at Olimpiyski Sports Arena, was officially announced yesterday at RIA Novosti press center in Moscow.

IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (23-0, 18 KOs) is back. "King Arthur" showed no effects from the broken jaw suffered in his previous fight as he knocked out previously unbeaten Sebastien Demers (20-1, 9 KOs) in round three on Saturday night at the JAKO Arena in Bamberg, Germany. In a bout that started after midnight due to network coverage of a major soccer match, Abraham went right to work beating Demers to the punch with good combinations to the head and body. Abraham finally dropped Demers with a brutal assault in round three and referee Ernest Sharif stopped it at 2:57.

After more than a year of inactivity Russian top super flyweight contender Dmitry 'The Baby' Kirillov will be finally back to the squared ring and straight into his third title shot on June 30 in Moscow. Kirillov (28-3, 9 KOs) who is ranked 5th by the IBF and 15th by the WBO in 115 lbs, will face WBA #8 rated bantamweight Ricardo ‘Chapo’ Vargas (39-12-3) for the vacant IBF belt. Dmitry has already fought for the same title in his last outing, dropping a highly debated split decision to Nicaraguan Luis Alberto Perez more than a year ago. Perez was next scheduled to face Vargas on November, 4, but failed to make weight, having lost his belt at scales.

Unbeaten 2004 Olympic super heavyweight gold medalist Alexander Povetkin (11-0, 9 KOs) of Russia will face Canadian Patrice L´Heureux (20-3, 12 KOs) on the big May 26 Sauerland Event card in Bamberg featuring Arthur Abraham and Marco Huck in separate fights. The following month in Moscow, Povetkin is scheduled for the biggest fight of his career against former world title challenger Monte Barrett.

Last Wednesday was marked as a special day for the entire Povetkin family. An open workout was held in Povetkins’ hometown of Chekhov, seventy kilometers south to Moscow, with both Alexander and Vladimir taking their part in. The fighting brothers, trying to become the double-powered force in the nearest future, showed their improving skills in impressive fashion to the Russian media in attendance.

Thanks to his extremely successful outing versus usually tough American David Bostice (TKO 2), Alexander Povetkin (11-0, 9 KOs), who is already ranked #16 by the WBC, will elevate his status from the featured figure of the evening to its main star. According to Povetkin’s manager Vladimir Hrunov, Russian Olympic super heavyweight gold medalist (Athens 2004) will now headline a huge show, promoted by Sauerland Event on May, 5, in Berlin, Germany.

According to well-known Russian manager Vladimir Hrunov, Vladimir Povetkin, the younger brother of 2004 Athens super heavyweight gold medalist Alexander Povetkin, will make his debut as a pro on March, 3, in Rostock, Germany.

In boxing, it's not always the fight that is the biggest challenge. Just ask Alexander Povetkin (10-0, 8 KOs). The 2004 Olympic super heavyweight gold medalist has had a hard time finding opponents.

Going upward isn’t an easy thing, especially when you have to take chances in pretty risky action for that. But as always no risk means no reward. That’s exactly the case of the top heavyweight prospect Alexander Povetkin (10-0, 8 KOs) of Chekhov, Russia, who will make another gigantic leap in his career on March, 3, in Germany.
