Former world champion Kostya Tszyu watched his first conqueror Vince Phillips fall short on Sunday in the main event of the "International Kostya Tszyu Cup" event -- named after the legendary Russian-Australian pugilist. Sturdy Alisultan Nadirbegov (16-2, 6 KOs) sustained some rough moments, but outpointed the 43-year-old former IBF light welterweight titlist Phillips (48-12-1, 34 KOs) over ten rounds via unanimous decision. The card took place at Arsenal Stadium in Tula, about 100 miles south of Moscow.

43-year-old former world champion Vince Phillips (48-11-1, 34 KOs) arrived in Russia on Saturday to finish his camp for his upcoming fight scheduled next Sunday against Kostya Tszyu's fighter Alisitan Nabegigov (15-2, 6 KOs) for the main event in Tula Russia for the Kosta Tszyu Cup. He is five days away from the fight and he is on weight as scheduled.

Phillips fights on Tszyu Cup!

If you can’t beat him, just sign him. This motto, adjusted by Oscar De La Hoya several years ago, will be replayed in a reverse fashion on May, 6, in an old Russian city of Tula. Boxing legend Kostya Tszyu will not sign any promotional agreements with 43-year old Vince Phillips, but he for sure will try to take his bitter rival out of the ring with the help of just-contracted Russian fighter Alisultan Nadirbegov.
