Undefeated Russian welterweight prospect Dennis Shafikov (10-0, 5 KOs) will make a huge step up in class tomorrow in Urheilutalo, Helsinki, Finland, when he fights once-defeated Antillean-based Dominican Christian Frias (20-1-2, 16 KOs) in a non-title eight-rounder. 21-year old Shafikov is managed by Igor Shafer and fights outside of former Soviet Union for the first time in career. Frias will make his third appearance in Europe since compiling his record list in Caribbean region.
Shafikov fight will be a co-feature bout of the evening. Headlining the show is the reigning European middleweight champion Amin Asikainen (20-0, 14 KOs) in a tune-up versus durable journeyman Martins Kukuls (3-11) of Latvia. Asikainen is scheduled to make the third defense of his title the next month against Sebasian Sylvester, the man he has sensationally kayoed one year before. P3 promotes the show.
Russian middleweight Aslanbek Kodzoev (17-2-1, 12 KOs), who is making his comeback this Saturday, will fight journeyman Roman Lobachev (6-11-1, 2 KOs) in a scheduled eight-rounder. Kodzoev, 26, last fought in January, 2006, loosing to Marko Antonio Rubio due to severe injuries. Aslanbek has a bunch of good wins to his credit, including Sergey Tatevosyan, Jerry Elliot, Diego Castillo and Rasheem Brown as his victims.
A huge card, featuring several Russian top prospects, will be arranged on June, 22, in Cheboksary, Russia, under the “RS Sport Promotion”, Kazan-based Company, headed by Rinat Yusupov, in association with his American partners. Though no pairs are formed as of date, an IBF international belt will be at stake for sure. Heavyweight Alexey Solovyev and light middleweights Rauf Garaev and Maxim Vlasov are rumored to take part in the show.
