An IBF eliminator between unbeaten cruisers Vadim Tokarev (23-0-1, 16 KOs), 34, of Russia, and Marko Huck (18-0, 14 KOs), 22, of Germany, will reportedly take place on April, 24, in Berlin. Huck is promoted by German-based Sauerland Event, who won the purse bid against Seminole Warriors Boxing the last week. Meanwhile, it was Germany, where hard-hitting Tokarev suffered the only blame to his perfect record, scoring only a draw versus extra tough local fighter Firat Arslan (WBA mandatory at present) three years ago.
According to well-known Kazan promoter Rinat Yusupov, his fighter Wladimir Zykov (18-0, 4 KOs), 23, will face former IBF champion Vince Phillips (48-11-1, 34 KOs) in a proposed ten-rounder as the part of the next stage of International Kostya Tszyu Cup. The fight can occur either on May, 5, or May, 17, in Kazan or Tula. Local fighter Zykov, being totally hitless (1 KO in 15 fights) and unknown, made a sensational American debut by scoring two convincing kayos in a row against a credible opposition the last year.
Ironically, it was legendary Kostya Tszyu, who elevated aging veteran Phillips (now 43) to the world star status while suffering late-round stoppage by the hands of American ten years ago, in 1997.
