There is a huge list of certain countries, which form vast white spots over the map of professional boxing nowadays. However, former Soviet republic of Azerbaijan is no longer on this list, as it will host, perhaps, its most important boxing card in history on January, 19. The show, arranged by Alexander Yagupov’s “Coliseum Promotions” in an association with Spanish-based “Tundra” promotional company and with the help of the charitable fund “Sozidanie”, will hit Azerbaijani capital Baku. The upcoming event will be the third ever boxing card (with one fight in 1995 and one event in 2004), held on the southeastern shore of Caspian See, and undoubtedly the biggest one.
Headlining the show will be up and coming cruiser Ali Ismailov (6-1-1, 5 KOs), 32, who is known mostly for giving Russian cruiserweight star Vadim Tokarev one of his toughest fights in career last February before being stopped by injury after the ninth round. Ismailov, a former amateur star and two-time Olympian, will face experienced Brazilian veteran Luciano Torres (52-9, 35 KOs), 41, for the vacant WBO Latino title, despite having none of Latin blood in him. With the win Ismailov will be one step closer to realize his dream of avenging the only loss in his resume.
Supporting the main event will be a good bunch of talented fighters in undercard. Rugged Russian featherweight Evgueni Strausov (14-6, 8 KOs) will fight an eight-round tune-up versus Kazakh trial horse Takhir Ibragimov (0-10). Local prospect Azad Azizov (9-2-1, 4 KOs) is scheduled to face Kazakh Assan Sexenbayev (4-2, 2 KOs) in another eight-rounder, while unbeaten Norwegian light heavyweight Kim Jenssen (9-0, 6 KOs) will try his skills against Russian journeyman Vasily Andriyanov (7-10, 1 KO). Also Spanish-based Bulgarian-adopted Amaro Diallo (12-0, 4 KOs) will be matched against Russian Roman Lobachev (6-10-1, 2 KOs) in scheduled six rounds. Other fights:
Rauf Garaev (4-1, 3 KOs) – Ilhom Kurbanov (0-3) – 6 rounds
Daniil Peretyatko (6-5, 3 KOs) – Shirzod Mamadzhanov (0-1) – 6 rounds
Ilchin Nagiev (1-0, 1 KO) – Ulutbek Bazyrbaev (0-1) – 4 rounds
Vitaly Polishuk (2-0, 1 KO) – Mukhit Andiev (pro debut) – 4 rounds
