Russian cruiserweight Valery Brudov (WBA #4) will make yet another attempt to capture one of the major boxing titles, however in its interim form, on December 2 at Palais Omnisport, Bercy, Paris, France, when he faces Panamanian kayo artist Luis Andres Pineda (WBA #2, WBC #7) for the WBA cruiserweight title. The show will be promoted by AMI Productions, lead by Michel Acaries.
Brudov, 32-1 with 24 KOs, of St. Petersburg, Russia, suffered the only defeat in a career this January when he dropped lopsided decision to Virgill Hill for the ‘ordinary’ version of WBA title. He is coming off two less-than-stellar performances against mediocre opposition in his last two bouts. Pineda (21-4, 18 KOs) will take part in his second world title collision after devastating TKO 1 loss to WBC boss Wayne Braithwaite three years ago. The WBA interim bout will make the situation in 200 lbs even more sophisticated for the respective organization as it has already its ‘superchampion’ (WBA and WBC titlist O’Neill Bell), ‘ordinary champion’ (Virgill Hill) and mandatory challenger (Firat Arslan).
Fighting on the undercard will be Georgia native David Gogiya (16-1, 4 KOs), now representing Togliatti, Russia. Gogiya will make the first defense of his EBU super middleweight title against tough Frenchman Jackson Chanet (28-1, 15 KOs), who is ranked #10 by IBF, #12 by WBC and #15 by WBA. Gogiya is coming off the biggest success in his career, when he stepped up in class only to upset former EBU champion Mger Mkrtchian via controversial split decision this October.
