It seems that the much anticipated showdown between current EBU super middleweight beltholder Russian-based Armenian Mger Mkrtchian (23-2, 17 KOs) and hot Georgian, but also Russian-based contender David Gogiya (15-1, 4 KOs) is finally off.
Both pugilists were first scheduled to collide on the 28th of September in Moscow but later this bout was shifted to Kiev, Ukraine, and arranged as a co-feature fight of a huge show on September, 23rd. However, Mger’s manager Alexander Yagupov had failed to reach an agreement with Gogiya’s representatives, so the bout was cancelled for good. Mkrtchian is now stated to face undefeated Spanish 175 lbs champion Gabriel Campillo (11-0, 3 KOs) on Oct, 12th, in his current hometown of St. Petersburg, Russia. Title match will be arranged at Giant-Hall Casino and will headline a huge card, filled with mixture-arts fights.
Gabriel Campillo, 6’2, 27, is two years younger and 4 inches higher than Mkrtchian. He is pro since 2002 and works awkwardly as a southpaw but obtains a lack of hitting power. In his last fight (Dec, 2005) Campillo scored a unanimous decision over Juan Nelongo Perez in order to capture Spanish light heavyweight title.
