The long-awaited and distressful showdown between current EBU titleholder Armenian Mger Mkrtchian (23-2, 17 KOs) and hot Georgian contender David Gogiya (15-1, 4 KOs) seems to be finally on. Two of the best current super middleweights, both fighting in Russia since the beginning of their pro careers, will collide on Oct. 12, in St. Petersburg, Russia. This bout was originally scheduled on Sep. 28, in Moscow, Russia, then removed on Sep. 23, to Kiev, Ukraine, and then cancelled. Mkrtchian (#4 WBA, # 6 IBF, and #9 WBC) was later set to fight Spanish Gabriel Campillo, however, this fight was scratched due to an injury, suffered by Campillo. Gogiya and Mkrtchian representatives met once again and were able to reach late agreement.
Topping the undercard will be French Jackson Chanet (#10 WBA), 27-1 with 15 KOs, who has lost his EBU title to Mkrtchian via eleventh-round KO this April, cruiserweight contender Valery Brudov (#4 WBA) of Russia, 31-1 with 23 KOs, and former amateur star Ali Ismailov of Azerbaijan, 5-1-1, 4 KOs. The show is promoted by promotional group “Coliseum”, led by Alexander Yagupov, in association with charitable fund “Sozidanie”.
