A deal has been worked out between the camps of WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev, mandatory challenger Samuel Peter and comebacking WBC champion emeritus Vitali Klitschko. Maskaev will face Peter no later than August, with the winner to face Klitschko by the end of the year according to KFSN-TV. Maskaev and Peter will now go into a free negotiation period and if no agreement is reached, the WBC will call a purse bid. Peter had won two WBC eliminators for the right to challenge for the title, but Klitschko put a wrench into the works by calling on a WBC promise for an immediate title shot should he decide to come out of retirement. The WBC ordered the parties to work it out among themselves and go to arbitration if necessary. It seemed that the Peter camp was amenable to receiving a $2.75 million step-aside offer, however the deal unraveled several times and the Klitschko camp finally agreed to take next.
