It’s not always about boxing itself but it’s sometimes very noble and inspiring. And it will be remembered for a long, long time. The latest example is on hand in Russia as the WBC heavyweight titleholder Oleg Maskaev showed once again during his recent trip to the Motherland that he is not only a successful prizefighter but a sincere man as well.
Maskaev visited Ageev’s Sports Club in the small town of Balashiha, which is located just near the eastern border of Moscow, to talk to the young fighters, training there, and to view their sparring sessions. Victor Petrovich Ageev is not only the president of the Russian Professional Boxing Federation, but he is also a living amateur boxing legend, once known for his fan-friendly boxing style and unique entertaining ability.
Both sides were extremely pleasured with the process. Children of different ages were glad to speak with their idol as well as to take part in the collective photo session with the honored champion. Lots of them were even lucky to get boxing gloves, signed privately by Maskaev. Oleg was also very glad to feel a great support from the future stars of both, amateur and pro boxing. Maskaev asked future champions to train hard, to obey elders and to be always modest. He had even sparred a bit with the most willing youngsters with his foes being declared as the ‘winners’. There were a lot of fun, even more joy and the most possible degree of kindness during Oleg’s appearance in the gym.
Oleg Maskaev was accompanied by his manager Fred Kesch, his promoter Dennis Rappaport and promoter Vladimir Hrunov during his effort. Maskaev is scheduled to fight Ugandan Peter Okhello in the first defense of his WBC title on December, 10, in Moscow, Russia.
