Hot prospect Dmitry Pirog (5-0, 4 KOs), 28 of Temrjuk, Russia, will defend his Russian middleweight belt versus adopted Georgian Zviadi Putskhanidze this Saturday in his opponents’ hometown of Chelyabinsk, Russia. Pirog sensationally captured Russian middleweight championship with the confident unanimous decision over long-time contender Sergey Tatevosyan this April. In his last outing, on the 27th of July, Pirog easily destroyed fairly unknown Islam Yusupov (1-3, 0 KOs) in two rounds of brutal action.
Purtskhanidze, 25, doesn’t seem to be a tough test for defending champion with the less-than-stellar record of 13-5-2, 3 KOs. However, Georgian possesses Siberian and Ural regional 160 lbs title. In his last outing (12th of June) he was taken to a ten round draw by up and coming Alexander Valiakhmetov (4-0, 4 KOs).
WBA#11 Ukrainian light heavyweight Yuri Barashian (20-2, 12 KOs), 26, scored an easy UD 6 victory over rugged veteran Teymuraz Kekelidze (15-24-1, 12 KOs), 40, on the local card, held in Gelendzhik, Russia, on the 27th of July.
27-years-old Moldovan middleweight Ivan Gontsa (14-1-1, 4 KOs), who is believed to be the best Moldovan fighter in the business, scored tough-than-expected win over unheralded Ukrainian Maxim Velichko (3-10-2, 0 KOs) on points in twelve-round feature bout of the show, held in the National Sport institute in Kishinev, Moldova, on the 28th of July. With the victory Gontsa captured the vacant WBC CIS and Slavic Countries Light Middleweight title. In his previous outing Moldovan scored his best win to date with the dominant performance over Russian Alisultan Nadirbegov.
Topping the undercard was Russian cruiser Mikhail Nasyrov (15-0, 10 KOs) who scored an easy TKO 6 win over debuting Andrey Kondrich. Also Ukrainian Magomed Yadgarov (2-1, 0 KOs) upset Russian Andrey Bogdanov (5-2-1, 2 KOs) over 6 rounds.
Former two-time Olympian Ramazan Palyani (14-0-1, 8 KOs) of Georgia, now representing Philadelphia, PA, USA, continued his comeback to Motherland with the third confident victory in two months. On the 26th of July Palyani, rated 12th by WBO in lightweight division easily destroyed Georgian light middleweight prospect Malkhaz Berkatsashvili (15-2, 11 KOs) in the 5th round of scheduled 10. 32-years-old Palyani is known for his controversial draw with David Diaz last October.
