The clock is ticking down for WBC #1 ranked heavyweight contender Samuel Peter and his camp. Peter was recently offered $2.5 million in "step-aside" money with an "iron-clad" deal to fight the winner of a May 19th HBO date between current champion Oleg Maskaev and former champ Vitali Klitschko. Peter would also be guranteed a purse-split of 50-50 to fight the winner. As of Thursday evening, however, Peter and his camp have yet to make a decision and Maskaev promoter Dennis Rappaport is growing impatient. "I'm anxious to see this end," Rappaport told Fightnews. "I think it'll come to a culmination in the beginning of next week. It comes to a point where you can't stay neutral. (This) has taken on a life of it's own. It's gone from the ridiculous to the sublime. This can't keep going on. A decision will be made or the offer will be taken off the table. It will come to a conclusion early in the week. I can't deal in the Twilight Zone or Fantasy Island." And if a decision isn't made soon? "I believe it will go to arbitration if there's not a settlement," Rappaport predicted.
